Product Reviews

  1. Practical and time-saver

Posted by Vitaliy Rudnytskiy (blogger at Vital BI) on May 14th, 2012

I had received this book from Ingo already while ago, but promised to write the review after my first SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.0 (SBO BIP 4.0) implementation project is over. We went live two weeks ago and the time for the book review has come. I purchased online version as well.
I recognize the challenge of writing the book in these times. SAP is doing pretty good job providing official documentation. The book has to give me some added value on top of the official information already available. The biggest advantage of Ingo’s book is that it gives you end to end steps of implementing particular scenario: SBO 4.0 integration with traditional SAP systems. If you are doing this particular scenario – and this what I have done – then the book saves you time as you do not need spend time searching for information in many documents in many places. Follow the flow of the book, select chapters relevant for BI tools you are implementing, and then look for more details in external documents. I referred to book often: to check the steps, but as well to revalidate it with the reality.
All in all: practical book, which happened to be very useful for me in the real project.

  2. Ingo Hilgefort Hits the Mark with SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x and SAP Netweaver Integration

Posted by Gary Hooker on Mar 13th, 2012

With no previous SAP BusinessObjects implementation experience, I found this book to be incredibly valuable in helping me gain a core understanding of how both BI 4.x and BW hang together from an integration perspective and therefore what I needed to do as the administrator to get our BI4.x implementation project successfully over the line.

Ingo pitches this book squarely at people like myself who need to quickly understand the integration points between BI 4.x and SAP Netweaver. He provides step-by-step instructions on how to stitch the systems together and has worked examples to follow.

This very practical book will really help you understand the overall BW/ BOBJ architecture, the various BI tools and clients available, installation and configuration aspects, the semantic layer and data connectivity options for various SAP BW and ERP landscapes and scenarios, security, publishing, portal integration, and finally troubleshooting and tips.

If you are considering implementing SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x with SAP Netweaver then I highly recommend that you buy this book. It is a no-brainer - just get it. It will save you heaps of time and effort!

  3. Praise for Ingo Hilgefort’s SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x with SAP Netweaver

Posted by Tammy Powlas on Nov 13th, 2011

Ingo Hilgefort’s SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x with SAP Netweaver covers more than just BI 4.x. It includes BI 4.0 Feature Pack 3 and BusinessObjects Analysis, MS Edition for Office, which is platform independent. It contains over 180+ more pages than his excellent first edition book “Integrating SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 Tools with SAP NetWeaver.

For most of the book the author assumes you are using the BI 4.x platform but you could also use it with BusinessObjects Analysis MS Edition for Office and Crystal Reports 2011. Included are steps to install the software and helpful charts of data connectivity options with ERP, NetWeaver, HANA with actionable steps. Ingo explains what is missing in the software as well.

This is Ingo’s fifth book and as always contains his high quality standards.

BI 4.x is SAP’s biggest release in BusinessObjects history and if you are an SAP customer using BusinessObjects software or considering the use of BusinessObjects for your BI needs this book is a "must-have" for your bookshelf.

I also recommend the online version so you can easily "search" what you need to know.
