The book covers most of the GATP functionality along with practical examples. Reading this book will help user in understanding GATP quite a lot; but getting hands will require some guidance...
Good Overview about functionality

The many practical examples make it easier for the reader to get an understanding of the ATP-functionality.
Since the book attempts to address a large, sophisticated group (practitioners, project leader, project member and (!) consultant) to address, it's a constant balancing act between the general descriptions of the functionality and customizing. Both aspects are very well described, but in some cases not detailed enough. For example, it generally lacks the themes of the ATP check in materials management and production. I expected also a more detailed description about the close interaction between the customer order fulfillment process, the availability check and backorder processing and that in terms of functionality and limitations (e.g. use of sales BOM).
The chapter of scheduling includes a very good overview of the functionality of the configurable process scheduling.
The consideration of the planning situation during the availability check with Global ATP can be supported by Multilevel ATP (MATP) and Capable-to-Promise (CTP). A comprehensive comparison of both methods (in particular the limitations of the CTP) should be a part of this book.
